Winter Steelhead Fishing is starting to get good

Winter Steelhead Fishing is starting to get good. This cold weather can make it difficult to fish and the icy road make it even harder to get to your fishing location. For those who ventured out in this most resent winter storm seemed to have caught winter steelhead. Before this winter storm fishing has been kind of tough.

November and the first two weeks in December seemed to be a struggle for catching chrome winter steelhead. In the past years November and December have been stellar for winter steelhead. I am not sure what the reasons were for the slow start, but I am hoping for limits here on out.

Most rivers in the area are in great shape now for targeting winter steelhead. If you are going to fish the Oregon Coast or if you are going stay in the greater Portland area I would say the rivers are in great shape to pound winter fish. This cold snap has really help with shaping up the rivers. I am really looking forward to getting out and catching.

This year I am am going to be all over the board for winter steelhead fishing. Spending time down in Tillamook, hitting the Nestucca and the Wilson River out of my Clackacraft drift boat. Also using my Willie Raptor open sled, side drifting the Clackamas and the Cowlitz River. Not to forget the Washougal River and the Kalama River as well.

It is funny, as I write this blog post I am getting text messages from a buddy, Bruce Goins of Goins Outdoor Adventures. He is giving me a play by play report on the river today. He is currently 3 for 5 on winter steelhead this morning (10:30am) and provided me with these great pictures.
