Jan. 24 2016 Steelhead Fishing Report

Winter Steelhead Fishing has been great with the rivers coming back into shape. Early last week the SW Washington had some heavy rain fall blowing out the surrounding rivers, now they are back into Winter Steelhead Fishing shape. My past two Guided Winter Steelhead Fishing Trips were excellent.

Sunday and last Friday we had some great Steelhead Fishing, hooking 7 Winter Steelhead on Friday and 6 Winter Steelhead on Sunday. There is some big, beautiful, native Winter Steelhead in the rivers right now. These Native Steelhead have shoulders on them and know how to work the current of the river to give an enormous battle. Using top of the line, super sensitive, light weight 6-8lb rods for drifting eggs makes fishing and catching Winter Steelhead even more enjoyable.

Ron, one of my clients from Sunday, hooked and landed his very 1st Steelhead. The most amazing thing about Ron hooking and landing his 1st Steelhead is that he caught it drift fishing eggs (drift fishing eggs is a very tough technique for someone who doesn’t steelhead fish). I am currently guiding for Winter Steelhead on the Kalama River, East Fork Lewis River and Washougal River. All these rivers are producing good numbers each trip. Next month I am going to start Side Drifting / Bobber Dogging the Cowlitz River for Winter Steelhead and the Sandy River for Winter Steelhead. I hope the weather cooperates for the next couple months to allow for great Guided Winter Steelhead Fishing.
